A Stupid Swell

In case you didn't get the butt of the joke, the acronym from the title of the blog spells "ass".

From lifeisajoke.com

This cartoon set the general tone for my whole of last week.

After being sent home to rest for 3 days (of course going in to work even for a couple of hours on a daily basis didn't help the situation much), the swelling persisted and it made sitting really excruciating and standing unbearable. This is a stupid thing to have.

Sharon cracked a joke to make light of the situation and I guess I couldn't see light in the tunnel to laugh at myself. Then she said something like it's part of being a mother - not the words I wanted to hear but it drove the message home. I was being a baby. I wanted to wallow in self pity and lament why my smooth expectancy didn't take me all the way to delivery.......sentiments that weren't helping myself at all. Sharon has gone through this twice now and she should know what pain is. I'm just at the tip of the iceberg and already I'm willing to throw in the towel.

I went back to the GP who in turn got me an urgent appointment with the Colorectal Specialist in the same afternoon. He said that I had probably seen/felt the worst of it and it doesn't look very 'angry' like the way I described it. Surgery is not an option this late in the pregnancy and it may recur again. The only thing I could do now was to control and reduce the swelling, continue to eat my roughage and wait for Bud to pop.

I felt despair upon hearing that nothing could be done. As the news from the Specialist wore on, I felt an inner peace with the situation. The only way is up from here; I couldn't expect a miracle cure 'cos there was none. If it was going to be a long road to recovery, so it will be.

I think I ran Wei pretty thin as well for the week. Poor fella had to fight traffic home from work to bring me food with greens. He took care of me and my ass when I was too scared to even touch or look at it.

He bought me a donut seat for the office.

I made peace with the swell, laid my cushion of air on my office chair and got to work.

  1. I feel for you and am glad it is all cleared up now. Happy to see you not lugging around with your special pillow. I know you dread it when people asks. *hugs*
